Happy New Year!

A new year, and a few resolutions ...

Get back into blogging.
Spend less time on my phone.
Be more organized and get rid of clutter.

I feel like I should be able to handle these.

And how was the end of 2015?

We are all sick and quarantined and spent New Year's Eve at home. I made party food (spinach artichoke dip and Mexican bean dip), and we watched football (Roll Tide!) and Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve. Baby G declared it bedtime after she watched Taylor Swift's new video premiere, but Bean Dip was determined to stay up to watch the NYC ball and the Nashville music note drop.

And he made it!

Here's to a year of reunions, adventures, peace, health, and happiness.

2015

A new year.

I'm going to get back to blogging regularly.

I've really slacked off, as I'm often reminded by my mom.

I'd also like to play catch up and at least mark the big events of last year with photos.

Stay tuned.

New Year's 2013

New Year's Eve was a quiet holiday for us. We were at the farm, and after dinner, Dad dug out the slide projector and we had a slide show of old pictures. It was a lot of fun, and we all got a kick out of it.

After the kids went to bed, we broke out a bottle of champagne and watched the show of Times Square. I ate my herring (for good luck?), and managed to stay up until midnight.

Happy 2013!

Ringing in 2011

Happy New Year! I did not make it to midnight last night, what with caring for two sick babies all week, I was exhausted. We are having a quiet day of doing nothing for our first day of 2011.

I am enjoying my favorite part of the holidays -- pickled herring. In my family, you eat it on New Year's Eve in hopes of making lots of money in the new year. It is one of my favorite things to eat. It's probably the Dutch heritage in me that makes me love raw/pickled/smoked fish. At my family's house, a jar this size sometimes only lasts a couple hours. And now I'm off to finish off this jar. Try it, it's delicious!

(Baby G also happens to love pickled herring. She prefers in on a Ritz cracker, just like Mama.)

What do you traditionally eat on New Year's Eve/Day?
