A Long Silence

I'm still here, just took a little break from blogging. I want to "remodel" my blog, but I'm having writer's block. I will write more in a bit, after I upload my pictures from Thanksgiving. I cooked my first turkey this year!

"A" is for Watermelon

It is if you are reading an Italian book. The word for watermelon in Italian is anguria. We have a little collection of Italian children's books, and the other day, Bean Dip came out with one and read it to Win. They had a little discussion over the different words for things.

I had a good birthday. I took the kids to the Aviation Museum in the morning, and then we went out to dinner when Win got home. We tried the new Thai place in town. It was surprisingly nice and surprisingly good. We will be going back, especially once they get their liquor license.

It has been a pretty quiet week. We have all had colds. Win had his big check ride on Wednesday and passed. That is very exciting. It means he has survived the first part of flight school. Now he will have a little break, and then have the selection just before Thanksgiving. He'll find out what he'll be flying -- either an Apache, Blackhawk, or Chinook.

Win was off yesterday for Veterans Day. We went back to the Aviation Museum (it really is a family favorite), and then went to Applebee's so he could have his free dinner. A couple of his friends joined us, too.

The Start of a New Decade

I am 30 years old today.

While I'm trying to figure out how I feel about that, I have to say my 20s were quite eventful. A few things I've done:

Graduated from college
Got a job in my field, moved to a new town and lived by myself
Bought my first car (and paid it off)
Got married
Moved to Italy
Survived two deployments
Gave birth to two children (one while in Italy during a deployment)
Made lifelong friends
Traveled all over Europe
Moved back to the U.S.

I have to say it's been an eventful 10 years. I hope the next 10 are just as exciting.

A Little Late to the Game

During the Vicenza Girls Getaway, Michelle was kind enough to bring me some cloth diapers to try out. I have been using them since then, and have been really happy with them. They are way easier than I originally thought, and I love not having to buy diapers every week.

I needed a few more covers, so I took the plunge and started searching online. Oh my. There is a whole world out there dedicated to cloth diapers. I kept it simple and found some similar to one of the covers Michelle gave me. I was ridiculously excited to get them in the mail.



They are simple waterproof snap covers. I am happy with them because they aren't bulky, and fit Baby G's skinny legs. The blue one got attacked by some Velcro in the first washing, but luckily, it is still usable. I want to buy more, but since I don't need them at the moment, I'm going to hold off for a while. I am only using cloth part time -- we still use regular ones for nighttime and when we go out.

I try not to think about all the money I could have saved by doing cloth with both kids from the beginning. (And also the mountains of diapers I've sent to the landfill.) I'm not really sure why I was anti-cloth before, especially when both Michelle and Samantha were using them. I think I just thought it was too much work, and too much of an upfront investment. But I am pro-cloth now, especially with all the choices out there.
