With the packing behind us, on Saturday we packed up and headed to the beach for one last trip. We stayed with Alex and Venusja, but didn't actually see them until the evening. (Venusja had fallen at work and had to get x-rays on her jaw. They sat at the urgent care for 5 hours. Nothing was broken.)
Since Alex and Venusja were busy, we headed straight for our favorite beach spot, Grayton Beach. We tried the state park there, and it was perfect. I looked down the coastline to Grayton and the beach was packed. But it wasn't too bad at the state beach, and we had a wonderful afternoon. Bean Dip's new favorite beach thing is to run all the way down the beach, and back. He did it over and over. G's favorite thing? To sit in the shallow water and get pounded by the waves. They'd almost knock her over, she'd get water on her face, and she'd just laugh. Over and over until she started washing away. Both kids went out in the water with us. We built sand castles and ate fruit and sandwiches and generally had a great day at the beach.
Alex and Venusja left us a key, so we stopped by their house to clean up, then headed to Seaside for dinner. It was packed, but we found a parking spot, and ended up eating dinner right on the beach -- on the Deck at the Shrimp Shack. So somehow we managed to get a front row seat of the sunset on the beach, and delicious shrimp to boot. It was not fancy, but you couldn't beat the view.
After that we pretty much headed straight back to see Alex and Venusja, who were finally home. Poor Venusja, she slipped in bleach at work and fell, hitting first her jaw on the sink, then falling back on her back, neck and head. She was in a lot of pain. But we stayed up, chatting and drinking mojitos.
