Berry Picking

It's been a busy couple weeks. But we managed to squeeze in strawberry picking. The four pounds are already gone, and it's only been two days. They were that good.

We spent a long weekend visiting Win's brother and his wife. We had a great time and also got to see friends from Italy as well.

Well, G is crying so I should go. I'm also too tired to write anymore.

Boys' Night Out

Baby G is much better. The cough might linger (it did with Bean Dip), but she took a long nap yesterday afternoon and woke up smiling and happy. She slept well last night until about 4:30, when she decided it was time to wake up. She cried until Win brought her back to bed with us, where she proceeded to kick me and poke Win until I put her back to bed with her mobile on. Now it is 20 to 9 and she is still sleeping.

Last night was a boys' night out. Win took Bean Dip to see "How To Train Your Dragon." It was BD's first movie theater experience, and he really liked it. Win said he probably had the most fun playing the games in the lobby, but he sat through the whole movie, eating popcorn and drinking soda. He was one tired, but happy, little boy when they came home.

Oh! For dinner I made some awesome fish. I baked some talapia fillets with olive oil and salt and pepper. While they were baking I sauteed some canned artichokes, garlic, halved grape tomatoes and capers in butter and olive oil, and salt and pepper. I served the fish with the artichokes on top. It was yummy -- light and summery. I also made a bean and corn salad and cut up an avocado to go with it. Win told me it was a keeper recipe.

Colds and Ash

I have a sick little Baby G. She has the cold/cough that her brother and cousin had -- but she is so much more pitiful about it than those big boys. It breaks my heart when she cries. We had another mostly sleepless night, and she is already napping again. Hopefully, she is past the worst of it and will start getting better. On another note, she was eight months old yesterday.

Bean Dip has a new fascination: Volcanoes. We have been talking about the one in Iceland that erupted (I'm not even going to try to spell it), and the affect it had on all the airplanes. The story is a little close to home because Doc was set to fly to London the day they shut down all the airports in Europe. We have been looking at his Usborne "Lift-the-Flap Picture Atlas" and talking about how volcanoes work. Bean Dip says he does not want to see a volcano and that they are scary. But he can also tell you what happens when a volcano erupts, to include the fact that planes can't fly through the ash. (I told him they "spew ash." He says, "Pew aht.")

I'm also using our maps to reassure him that there aren't any volcanoes near us. He's a little worried about that. I find this interesting because I clearly remember being really scared of volcanoes when I was little.

If we get stationed in Hawaii, we will have to go see the volcano there. If Bean Dip wants to.

Home

It's amazing how a few weeks away has made this place feel more like home. I think it also helps that everything is SO green here, and our backyard is beautiful. What little grass we have is green, and the trees cover everything. It makes me happy.

I am so lucky to have good travelers. They gave me almost no trouble, and very little crying. Thank goodness for Lord Infamous, though. I'm also lucky to have a great car to drive.

Bean Dip is happy to see all his toys again. It has been non-stop, "Mama, will you play with me?"

Baby G is happy as always, except when I put her on her stomach.

I think our next big steps will be toilet training (for Bean Dip) and moving Baby G out of our room.

My Daughter is In Love

With this guy:

Rudy is my parents' German Shepherd. And Baby G has a huge crush on him. Every time he walks in the room, she just lights up, smiling and squealing at him. Her eyes follow his every move. When she pets him, she leans her whole body toward him. When he checks on her, by sniffing her, she puts both arms out to him.

Rudy seems to enjoy the attention, but I don't think he is quite as smitten with her as she is with him. I think to him, she is the littlest one of the pack, another person to keep track of. She is also the bearer of Cheerios, interesting smells, and fun, squeaky toys.

As docile as Rudy is, he still has a good 95 pounds on Baby G. So she doesn't get as much one-on-one time with him as she would like. I hold her close sometimes so she can pet him, but mostly, she enjoys him from afar. There are some major dog lovers in the family, and I have a feeling she is the next one. I'm already waiting for those words, "Mama, can I have a puppy?"

The Big City

As I posted on Facebook the other day, whether it's for one hour or one day, two nights or two weeks, the preparation is the same. I loaded up the car and we headed into St. Louis to see the other side of the family. Most of them had been out of town for a wedding. Win's brother got married this past weekend in Brazil! His wife is Brazilian. Because of the silly Army, we couldn't go. It was really disappointing that we missed it. But they will be living right along our drive to and from home, so hopefully we will be seeing a lot of them.

Bean Dip has a cold with quite a cough, but it isn't slowing him down. Yesterday we walked all over the downtown area of the suburb. We had a really nice lunch with Grandma, window-shopped and then stopped for cookies. When we got back to the house, Macon, Brendan and Christopher were here, with all their dogs. Brendan, Top and Bean Dip had a battle in the family room, using their fingers for guns. There was a lot of shooting, "dying" and calling for the medic. Macon and I are so proud.

It is another beautiful day, and we will be spending it outside again. Possibly the park or a hike. I am actually breaking out the sunscreen and hats.

Eggy

A rainy Sunday afternoon meant cartoons and M&Ms on the couch with Oma, with a break for Easter egg dying. This is Bean Dip's second year dying; it will be the first for hunting. The dying wasn't without one meltdown, but after a timeout and some milk, he was back in full form.

I can't wait to see the hunt this year. With two older cousins to show him the ropes, I think Bean Dip will have a blast. And Baby G. has a fabulous dress to wear.
